November ended with our first rainfall in almost 2 years, which resulted in some minor flooding on the golf course and the practice facility. We are in the process today (Monday) of moving some of that excess water back into the ponds. This seems easy, but you must understand that because of the amount of rain that fell, we haven’t needed to irrigate the golf course - which in turn means that the ponds are almost at capacity.
This Friday will be our first Demo Day of the winter season. Mizuno will be here from 9am to 2pm. Great time to check to make sure that your clubs are actually fitted correctly for you.
We are rescheduling the free golf clinic due to the weather conditions last Friday. I will keep you posted.
This coming Saturday will be the Olive Crest Shamble. We still have spots available for teams. Trilogy Homeowners' rate is $250.00 per player. You can register for the event via our website: www.trilogygolfclub.com/laquinta/tournaments/olive_crest
December 15th is the final day to get the Value Pack when you purchase the Annual Hybrid Pass or 50 round coupon program. We will be personally calling any of you who have not purchased to remind you. We have over 30 new passholders signed up this year over last year!
December 20th will be our Christmas sale. Specials galore! Golf shop hours for this event will be 4pm to 6pm. More information to follow.
We will be open for Christmas Day golf. Our golf shop and Azul Restaurant hours will be limited. More information to follow next week.
There has been some concern voiced regarding the fairway conditions. Please understand that because of the unusual weather conditions we experienced two weeks ago prevented the rye grass from taking hold in some areas. We are adding iron and fertilizer this week to help pump up the growth of the rye grass on a couple of fairways. You should see some improvement by the end of this week and next. For those of you who are concerned about the fairways, those are the conditions that help you put spin on the golf ball! If you can’t hit off the fairways with the conditions right now, your chances to play on the tour are non-existent! :-)
If you learn to dig the ball instead of lifting it, you will learn to play off the narrowest of fairway cuts. If you need help, look to your golf professional staff !
On the sports front, the Grizzlies are done and the Ducks play in a bowl game; all I have left is my Cowboys! I went to a neighborhood bar much like the rest of the nation to watch the game. We had to deal with obnoxious Packer fans that were stuck in the Bart Starr and Vince Lombardi era. They started flapping their gums when the Cowboys scored on their second field goal to go up 6-3. One guy who had one too may brats in his day bellowed out, “Cheer now because that is the last time you guys are going to score tonight!” In the end he was humbled, as we Cowboys fans obnoxiously yelled out in the style of Jimmy Johnson, “How bout them Cowboys?!” Now off to Detroit to play the Lions, who have lost 4 straight. Beware of the wounded animal!
Until next week, keep rolling that rock!
