I am writing this blog while viewing a fog-coated San Francisico morning. I can barely see Alcatraz and Angel Island from our hotel window here at the Fairmont Hotel because of the heavy marine layer. Talk about a difference in weather! During the San Francisco Marathon (which I had 3 friends participating in), the high was 60 degrees; drastic difference from the temperatures in the desert. As I stated here last week, this was the 25th wedding anniversary weekend for my wife and I. Fun was had by all as we were able to spend some quality time together and have some time with our closest of friends and family.

This week is the start of the PGA Championship, and the two year anniversary of this blog. As I wrote in that blog two years ago, once you have been inside the ropes of a major championship, every other event pales by comparison. This week’s event is sure to test the players. The PGA has come a long way in their approach to setting up golf courses. They are now getting the course conditions to be similar to a US Open. With Tiger Woods out of the picture, this event is anyone’s chance to put their name on the Wanamaker Trophy. As a 20 year member of the PGA, this event is very special to me because it is run by my association.

Scott Werline and his staff continue to move the bar with the golf course conditions here in the valley. I have traveled to number of other facilities this summer, and you would be hard pressed to see many courses in better condition than we are, especially if they are open to the public.

On that note, we will be punching the greens one more time this month. We have the maintenance work scheduled for Monday August 18th and Tuesday the 19th. The course will be closed on the 19th, and only 9 holes open on the 18th.

The golf course is planned for overseed on September 21st and will reopen on about October 8th. The plan is to be golf car paths only for the first 30 days with no exceptions.

On the Anthony Kim watch, it was a less than stellar weekend at the Bridgestone World Golf Championship. Anthony finished with a 1-over-par total which placed him in 37th place. Anthony expects nothing less than top ten finishes and victories, so events like this will drive him to be fully prepared for the PGA Championship. He will be playing in 7 of the last 9 events, which include the Fed Ex Cup and its 10 million dollar first place prize!

With the double tee start system in place we have great tee times available every morning before the heat bakes the desert floor. We have over 112 rounds of golf available between 6:30 am and 8:30 am. Check out our upcoming specials for July and August, lots of great golf, golf balls and lunches! Don’t miss out. www.Trilogygolfclub.com/laquinta

Until next week, keep rolling the rock!
