Yesterday April 27, 2008 was the 8th Annual National Date Chef Competition. Our Executive Chef Roy Luna qualified as one of the 6th entrée finalists for his dish, “Date and Moroccan Spiced Pork Lollipops." Not only did Chef Roy and our team have to prepare food for all the judges, but the competition was open to the public and we ended up preparing food for over 500 people. The team did a great job with the food and the decorating of the booth. They went with a Hawaiian theme, from handing out leis to having a palm tree ice carving as part of the display.

There was a total of 5 awards handed out last night, one for each of the three categories (Appetizer, Entrée, and Desert) and the other two were Best of Show, and Peoples' choice. After a long day of hard work by Roy, Jamie, and Rebecca, the team was rewarded with a tremendous surprise. Roy was awarded the “Best of Show” award. This was very deserved and a terrific accomplishment. There were chefs from all over the country and the competition was the best it had been in years. Chef was just humbled and honored to be there and in the presence of such great chefs.

Chef was the hit of the competition with his ever-vivacious personality. He was interviewed by radio, T.V. and the newspaper. As soon as the article and pictures come out in the Desert Sun, we will make them available on the website.

Please join me in congratulating Chef Roy Luna and his team for an incredible job and an award well deserved!

Friday was a spectacular day for the 5th Annual Lumpy’s Scramble for Autism. Last year the event raised over $80,00 for the Coachella Valley Autism Society of America. The weather was fantastic, and the field of 136 players had a great time. Barney Adams and Greg Brown of Adams Golf participated in the event. The evening dinner and dance event were held at the Santa Rosa club featuring the John Stanley King Band.

The Maui Wowie Beach Party enjoyed great weather and over 50 dinner guests. The highlight was Chef roasting a whole pig. People raved about the party. Chef was on his game, with this great party followed up by the win at the Date Festival.

Azul Restaurant continues to be open for Breakfast, Lunch and our Red Basket Menu from 3pm to 5 pm.

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and Azul with be rolling out the proverbial red carpet for Mom. Chef Roy has put together a feast for a Queen!

Be prepared as we roll out a special dinner so that the homeowners can sample the victory winning entrée that Chef Roy put together for the 8th Annual International Date Competition. The dates and times will be sent our in our next email update.

As the temperatures move up, the prices move down at Trilogy. Check out the latest prices and specials available at our website.: www.Trilogygolfclub.com/laquinta

On the Anthony Kim watch, he continued to roll with a tie for 20th at the Byron Nelson EDS Classic. The weather and new golf course design played havoc with a lot of players. Anthony played strong on the weekend to move up from 60th to 20th. Anthony continues to climb up the Fed Ex Cup and the World Rankings.

Until next week, keep rolling the rock!

What can I say about the weather?! Another Chamber of Commerce week for us here in La Quinta, while my home town of Helena, Montana was hit with 9 inches of snow. Mr. Gore, what’s the deal with the lack of global warming up in the northwest? :-)

The Gridiron Classic has come and gone. What a great day! Marty Schottenhiemer, Tom Flores, and Marshall Faulk led the former professionals at the event. The weather was perfect for this 92 player field. A joint collaboration with the Junior League of Palm Springs helped raise needed funds for two worthy charity organizations. The event benefited the Safehouse of the Desert and Caring for Kids.

April continues to be a strong month for us. Great weather and additional daylight hours, coupled with some great pricing, are giving the golfing public a opportunity to play one of the best conditioned golf courses in the desert.

Next on tap for Azul Restaurant will be on April 26th - the Maui Wowie Beach Party. Bring your sunscreen, flip flops, and we will supply the sand! Call for reservations for this event, the last of the spring!

We are proud to be a part of the Lumpy’s Scramble for Autism. This event raised over $80,000 for the Coachella Valley’s Autism Foundation last year. The event is scheduled for Friday April 25th. This event is already sold out with 144 players participating.

I am just about to go to our website to update some exciting specials for the next week. Check out our upcoming specials for April, lots of great golf, golf balls and lunches! Don’t miss out: www.Trilogygolfclub.com/laquinta

I would like to take this time to clear up a small issue concerning the Coupon Program. The 2008 coupons that were purchased in 2008 do expire 12/31/2008. I want people to be aware of this because I am hearing that people think that they will be able to roll their unused coupons into the 2009 program. The 100% coupon roll program that we used with the 2007 coupons was a one year deal. What we did in 2007-2008 won’t dictate what we are planning on for the future. With over 7 ½ months to use the coupons, I don’t see this as a problem. If anyone has a concern with this issue, I would suggest that you contact myself or General Manager Brandon O’Neill.

On the Anthony Kim watch, Anthony got his first taste of being in the final pairing on the PGA Tour. The Boo Weekly experiment continues to roll thru South Carolina leaving even Anthony in his wake. Anthony could not overcome some early round miscues. A late 3 hole birdie run helped him finish in a tie for second. - his best finish of the year. Lots of television time for Anthony week, and many rave reviews about his swing and his game. Many great things are about to happen, just you watch. Look for a great finish this week as Anthony heads to Dallas, his new hometown, to play in the Byron Nelson.

Until next week, keep rolling the rock!

Ground Hog Day again today! We wake up to clear skies, moderately warm temperatures and a finely manicured golf facility. All is well here at Trilogy La Quinta.

The Men’s Club crowned a new champion yesterday. Tony Perone held off Bill Beeghley to win his first club championship by one shot. Dale Rustigan ran away from the field to win the Low Net overall Prize. Lee Kaplan started his mini Trilogy Slam by winning 1st Gross in his flight to match his victory in the President’s Cup. Chuck Farrell fell short for his bid to win the Trilogy Slam in the championship Flight. Bill Beeghley will be trying to shake his bridesmaid image next year as he was the runner up in both the President’s Cup and the Club Championship.

April continues to be a big month here at Trilogy. On Tap this weekend will be the After Huevos Golf Event on Saturday Afternoon. Next Wednesday we will host the Gridiron Classic. Featured NFL Greats include Dick Butkis and Marshall Faulk.

As of April 1st the Azul Restaurant will only be open for Breakfast, Lunch and our Red Basket Menu from 3 to 5 pm.

Chef Roy is planning on rolling out a variety of specialty dinner nights. April 17th will be a Baja Beach Party and Saturday April 26th will be the Maui Wowie Beach Party. Bring your sunscreen and flip flops, and we will supply the sand!

Shea Homes once again had a successful Share the Dream Event last Thursday. Over 43 people had the pleasure of tasting Chef Roy’s Desert Best Prime Rib.

We are proud to be a part of the Lumpy’s Scramble for Autism. This event raised over $80,000 last year for the Coachella Valley’s Autism Foundation. The event is scheduled for Friday April 25th. This event is already sold out with 144 players participating.

On the Anthony Kim watch, Anthony unfortunately missed the cut at the Shell Houston Open in Houston this past week. Anthony is working hard on retooling his short game. Much of his misfortune has come at the hands of the flatstick. These last couple of weeks hurt because Anthony, like any tour professional, dreams of that first time entering the hollowed ground of Augusta National as a participant. That will have to wait until next year.

We are so excited for Chef Roy that I am repeating the announcement of Chef Roy being a Finalist in the Entrée Category for this year’s California Date Chef Competition. This is the third time Roy has been a finalist for this competition. This event is April 27th. The annual California Date Chef Competition attracts top professional chefs from across the Coachella Valley and California to compete with their original date recipes for top prizes. A panel of food experts in a blind tasting selects first place winners in Appetizer, Entrée and Dessert categories, as well as Best of Show. After the professional judging is completed, chefs offer their entries for the public to taste at the Gala Champagne Awards Reception, where they compete for the People’s Choice vote.

The Competition, open to professional chefs currently working in a restaurant or hotel, is designed to encourage chefs to be creative and adventuresome with California Dates. Top winners will be required to feature their dishes at their respective establishments for a month. This event will be at the Fantasy Springs Resort Special Events Center. Tickets will be about $25.00. This will entitle you to meet the Chefs and sample the entrée they have created.

I am just about to get to our website to update some exciting specials for the next week. Check out our upcoming specials for March, lots of great golf, golf balls and lunches! Don’t miss out. www.Trilogygolfclub.com/laquinta

Until next week, keep rolling the rock!

A Chamber of Commerce-esque weather week last week until Sunday! We were busy with groups from GolfQuest and Morgan Stanley. Morgan Stanley had their brokers from around the country here in the Coachella Valley for the past two weeks. We played host to their first wave Thursday and Saturday, with the Saturday group buying out the golf course and practice facility in the afternoon. We will host one final group from Morgan Stanley this Wednesday.

GolfQuest’s Golf Outing for Coca-Cola on Friday provided us with some excitement. Pat Fitzsimmons, former winner of the LA Open, and Dick Gott both recorded Hole in One’s. Dick aced #6, while Pat Holed out on #11. Golf Quest, who has been doing corporate outings for the past 12 years, had never recorded a Hole in One with any of their groups, much less two in one day!

This week we will also be entertaining Portland Cement on Wednesday. Saturday April 5th we will be entertaining the Women’s Golf Assocation of Southern California. The 112 ladies are playing in an afternoon shotgun at 1:00pm.

Today starts the Men’s Club Championship. This three day event has over 50 players entered. The final two days will be this Thursday and next Monday.

As of April 1st the Azul Restaurant will only be open for Breakfast, Lunch and our Red Basket Menu from 3 to 5 pm.

Chef Roy is planning on rolling out a variety of specialty dinner nights. I will be reporting those in next week’s blog and it will also be posted on the Trilogygolfclub.com and azulattrilogy.com websites.

The golf course continues to be busy, and in great shape. We are pleased to report that the project to fix some of the dry wells is going very well. #8 was completed, and the new sod is down. The hole looks great, and a gives everyone a little of a reprieve for missed shots off of the tee. Holes #7 and #13 and #15 are still in the process of being worked on.

April is shaping up to still be a very busy month, including the companies that I mentioned earlier in the blog, plus the Gridiron Classic, and Lumpy’s Annual Scramble for Autism and The Ladies Invitational.

The Gridiron Classic is a fundraiser for a couple of charities that deal with children in need. We are anticipating a variety of celebrities and former NFL Football players. The event is scheduled for April 16th.

We are proud to be a part of the Lumpy’s Scramble for Autism. This event raised over $80,000 for the Coachella Valley’s Autism Foundation last year. The event is scheduled for Friday April 25th, and is already sold out with a 144 players participating.

On the Anthony Kim watch, Anthony unfortunately missed the cut at the Zurich Championship in New Orleans this past week. Even more disappointing than reporting this is that he 4-putted the last green to miss the cut by one shot! Anthony plans to be participating in the Shell Open in Houston this week.

We at Trilogy are proud to announce that Chef Roy is a Finalist in the Entrée Category for this year’s California Date Chef Competition. The landscaping team members are keeping up with the ever-growing plant life around the golf course. They are currently finishing up #10 this week and will move on to #11 some time next week.
