If you didn’t notice, I missed out on last week’s blog. I will bring you up today. First, I have to wipe the sweat off my brow, no not because I type so fast, but because of the heat and humidity in my office. Storms rolling up from Mexico combined with the Dog Days of Summer has made it as hot and muggy as anyone can remember! Second, we are doing our prep work to roll out the new 2009 Annual Pass Program.

Despite the high humidity and high temperatures we had a very successful weekend. We averaged over 100 players each day.

Last Monday we had our meeting to review the 2009 Annual Pass Program. Representatives from the Men’s League Board, Ladies League Board, and the Ladies 9 hole Board met with the Bluestar Golf and Resort Management Team. The meeting was well received. We have raised the year pass fee just slightly, but have increased tee time usage for the annual pass holders on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We will have all of the information sent to the pass holders and Trilogy home owners in Mid September. All the documents will also be on the trilogygolfclub.com and mytrilogylife.com websites.

Golf Course Superintendent Scott Werline will be starting to prep the golf course for overseeding on September 17th. We will reduce the water on the golf course and start scalping the fairways that week. The tees and greens will still be in good shape, but the fairways will be a little rough. Our green fee rates will be reflective of the temporary conditions.

The first week of the PGA Tour Playoffs is finished, and all that happened was that it just got more muddled. Three-way tie for 1st with VJ Singh winning in a playoff over Kevin Sutherland and Sergio Garcia. Four more people tied for second, and another 3 or 4 tied at two shots back. Anthony Kim (who was fifth in the standing) moved down one despite being only 3 shots out. It was the biggest logjam at the top I have seen in quite some time.

Great news from Golf Digest, we just received a 4 ½ out of 5 star rating from them. We moved up ½ point from last year. My hat goes off to all the employees who helped us win this award. Speaking of awards, we are still in first place on the Best of The Best contest put on by PalmSpringslife.com.

To celebrate our award from Golf Digest we are offering a 2 fo1 rate that includes a sleeve of Precept Laddie Golf Balls for each player. You can check out our website for more on the special.

I will be rolling out our specials for September on Thursday! Look for some great deals!

I just got back this weekend from Montana... ahh, the good old days when the summer meant temperatures under 90. I was a speaker for the Montana Coaches Association All Sport Clinic. This was my first return to Montana in two years. It was such a quick trip I didn’t get to venture out much, so not much to report here in the blog.

Back at the golf course we had a great weekend with over 120 players on Saturday. The week began with a little rain and high humidity, but by the end of the week, the temperatures were very pleasant for this time of the year.

This was the two year anniversary of me starting this blog while I caddied at the PGA Championship at Medinah Country Club just outside of Chicago. The Championship that year was won by Tiger Woods, going away. Our highlights during the event are that we hit more fairways the first two days than Tiger did, and we had more birdies (6) than Tiger. The difference was we had more double bogeys and missed the cut by 5 shots.

This year’s event was very exciting and came right down to the end. Padraig Harrington is showing what hard work and determination can do for you. Until last year Padraig was a Major Championship bridesmaid. Now he has won 3 of the last 6 major championships. Sergio Garcia is now becoming the bridesmaid. He definitely played well enough to win until the end.

I am sounding like a broken record when it comes to Scott Werline and his staff, but they continue to move the bar concerning the golf course conditions here in the valley. I have traveled to number of other facilities this summer, and you would be hard pressed to see many courses in better condition than we are, especially if they are open to the public.

We have had some concerns with the mosquitoes and midges here at the golf course. Last week Vector Control came out and tested for mosquito nests; they did not find any which means that the mosquitoes are traveling here from the other parcels around the community. We are currently looking into the midge issue, which although irritating, does not pose the same health concerns as the mosquitoes. We are working with Shea Community Development to resolve the issue.

We will be punching the greens one more time this month. We have the maintenance work scheduled to be done on August 18th and 19th. The course will be closed on the 19th, and only 9 holes open on the 18th.

The golf course will be overseeded on September 21st and will reopen on about October 8th. The plan is to be golf car paths only for the first 30 days with no exceptions.

On the Anthony Kim watch, Anthony made the cut at the PGA Championship, which these days is not his focus - but he did get enough FedEx Cup points to move to 5th on the FedEx Cup points list and closer to challenging for the coveted 10 million dollar prize.

With the double tee start system in place we have great tee times available every morning before the heat bakes the desert floor. We have over 112 rounds of golf available between 6:30 am and 8:30 am. Check out our upcoming specials for July and August, lots of great golf, golf balls and lunches! I am writing this blog while viewing a fog-coated San Francisico morning. I can barely see Alcatraz and Angel Island from our hotel window here at the Fairmont Hotel because of the heavy marine layer. Talk about a difference in weather! During the San Francisco Marathon (which I had 3 friends participating in), the high was 60 degrees; drastic difference from the temperatures in the desert. As I stated here last week, this was the 25th wedding anniversary weekend for my wife and I. Fun was had by all as we were able to spend some quality time together and have some time with our closest of friends and family.

This week is the start of the PGA Championship, and the two year anniversary of this blog. As I wrote in that blog two years ago, once you have been inside the ropes of a major championship, every other event pales by comparison. This week’s event is sure to test the players. The PGA has come a long way in their approach to setting up golf courses. They are now getting the course conditions to be similar to a US Open. With Tiger Woods out of the picture, this event is anyone’s chance to put their name on the Wanamaker Trophy. As a 20 year member of the PGA, this event is very special to me because it is run by my association.

Scott Werline and his staff continue to move the bar with the golf course conditions here in the valley. I have traveled to number of other facilities this summer, and you would be hard pressed to see many courses in better condition than we are, especially if they are open to the public.

On that note, we will be punching the greens one more time this month. We have the maintenance work scheduled for Monday August 18th and Tuesday the 19th. The course will be closed on the 19th, and only 9 holes open on the 18th.

The golf course is planned for overseed on September 21st and will reopen on about October 8th. The plan is to be golf car paths only for the first 30 days with no exceptions.

On the Anthony Kim watch, it was a less than stellar weekend at the Bridgestone World Golf Championship. Anthony finished with a 1-over-par total which placed him in 37th place. Anthony expects nothing less than top ten finishes and victories, so events like this will drive him to be fully prepared for the PGA Championship. He will be playing in 7 of the last 9 events, which include the Fed Ex Cup and its 10 million dollar first place prize!

With the double tee start system in place we have great tee times available every morning before the heat bakes the desert floor.
